SANDTON · MORNING

YOUR FIRST 5KM STARTS WITH 30 SECONDS OF RUNNING.

A coached, beginner-first programme that takes you from never having run to crossing your first 5K finish line. Walk breaks included. No fitness test. No judgment. You will never be the slowest.

LET’S BE HONEST

YOU DON’T ACTUALLY WANT TO RUN. SAME.

You want to feel less stuck. A bit fitter. A reason to leave the house. But the gasping, the being seen being bad at it, the fear of holding everyone up? No thanks. That’s exactly why this club exists and why the first thing we deleted was the fear of being the slow one at the back.

DON’T TAKE OUR WORD FOR IT

OVER 5000 PEOPLE THOUGHT THEY COULDN’T.

I loved every minute of this experience and will be signing up again! The benefit of having a group to meet up with twice a week was hugely motivating, and achieving that little bit more each run has been so satisfying. Caitlin has been an incredible coach. Very glad to have found this program and community.

Joined the La Lucia group coached by Zolile in May/June. I was nervous about joining a running programme but Zolile was wonderful: very encouraging and gave us helpful insights. True to their word, no one is left behind and every pace is welcome. Would definitely recommend CPRC!

I thought I was signing up for a running programme. What I actually got was a bunch of people who genuinely did not care how slow I was, only that I kept showing up. There’s always someone hanging back with you. Nobody’s ever left behind. I couldn’t walk upstairs without huffing and puffing when I first started 🤣 Last week I did my first 5k without stopping. I actually can’t believe I did that. Just sign up. You won’t regret

I never imagined I’d be able to run 5 km without stopping. Before joining Couch Potato 5K Run Club, I had never run in my life and wasn’t physically active at all. The programme was easy to follow, well structured, and built my fitness gradually, making each week feel achievable. What really made the experience special was the incredible community. The support, encouragement, and motivation from the running group kept me going, even on the days I doubted myself. I’m so proud of how far I’ve come and would highly recommend this programme to anyone who thinks they’re “not a runner.” If I can go from never running to completing a 5K without walking, anyone can!

The training resulted in exactly what I wanted to achieve. Running my first 5ks. I doubted I would do it but clearly the training is well planned and gets you to where you need to be on the last run. It was well organised and great meeting and walking/running with people who were after the same thing. Would highly recommend joining if you want to start your running programme.

HOW IT WORKS

WE FIXED THE PROGRAMME THAT KEEPS BREAKING PEOPLE.

You’ve probably come across the standard “couch to 5K” plan floating around online – the one everyone copies. It starts gently enough: run 1 minute, walk. Run 2 minutes, walk. But then it just keeps doubling. Three minutes. Four. And then week 5 expects you to run 20 minute intervals, as if that’s a reasonable thing to ask of someone who could barely run to the end of the road a month ago.

That’s the exact point most people quit because the jump is absurd. So we threw it out and rebuilt it from scratch.

It’s the same 5K everyone else promises. We just made it one you’ll actually finish.

STILL NOT CONVINCED?

THE ONLY THING STANDING BETWEEN YOU AND CHANGING YOUR LIFE, IS THE SIGN UP BUTTON YOU KEEP NOT CLICKING.

YOUR EXCUSES ARE OUR SPECIALTY

WE’VE HEARD IT ALL.

“I’M NOT FIT ENOUGH TO START”

This programme starts at zero. Session one is 30 seconds of running. You don’t need to be fit to begin – the programme builds your fitness for you.

“I’LL HOLD EVERYONE BACK. I’M TOO SLOW”

There’s no pace in CPRC. The group moves together. Every person in that group thinks they’re the slowest one. They’re all wrong.

“I’VE TRIED RUNNING BEFORE AND GAVE UP”

You gave up because you didn’t have a coach, a structure, or a community. That’s exactly what this is. This time the conditions are different.

“WHAT IF I MISS A SESSION?”

The whole thing is designed with real life in mind. You have access to the full programme via our CPRC app and unmatched support from your coach.

“I’M OVERWEIGHT & EMBARRASSED TO RUN IN PUBLIC”

By week three, nobody’s thinking about what they look like. They’re just running. We have had ladies who weigh around 180kg complete our programme.

“R1,450 IS A LOT OF MONEY.”

That’s R90 a session for 8 weeks of coaching, a shirt, gift and medal, a full programme, WhatsApp support, and your 5K graduation. A gym membership you don’t use costs more.

OUR TEAM

THE HUMANS BEHIND OUR CLUB.

A community this size doesn’t run itself. Behind the scenes, a small team keeps everything working – the WhatsApp groups, the messages, the hundreds of little things you’d only notice if they stopped. These are the humans who make Couch Potato Run Club feel like Couch Potato Run Club.

Dani

Founder & Director

All Dani wants to do is help people feel more confident and at home in their own bodies. She started the club because she’s seen how powerful running can be, and she’s genuinely obsessed with what happens to people when they realise they’re capable of more than they thought.

Tammy

Marketing & Administrative Assistant

“the person who keeps the whole thing from falling over.” She’s behind about a hundred small things you’ll never see but would absolutely notice if they stopped. She’s also, for the record, one of the most passionate, bubbly, kind hearted humans we’ve ever met.

NEED AN ANSWER?

OUR FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS.

No. That’s not us being nice – it’s the entire point of the club. Couch to 5K starts at zero, on the actual couch. If you were already fit, you wouldn’t need us. You’re exactly who this was built for.

You genuinely can’t be. There’s no back of the pack here, because there’s no pack racing off ahead to be slow against. The group moves together, and someone’s always with you. Every single person on their first day thinks they’re the slowest. They’re all wrong.

More than okay – it’s normal. Most people who join us haven’t run since they were made to at school. Session one is 30 seconds of running. We build from there, slowly, together.

No, no, no, no, and no. We’ve had people join in their 20s and their 60s, and every shape of human in between. This club was built specifically for the version of you that’s convinced it’s too late. It isn’t.

Because last time you probably didn’t have a coach, a proper plan, or a group who’d notice if you didn’t show. You gave up because the conditions were stacked against you – not because you’re “just not a runner.” This time is different by design.

Absolutely not. If you could already run 5K, you wouldn’t need a couch to 5K programme. We take you to 5K, from wherever you’re starting – including from a standing (well, sitting) start.

You show up, we warm up together, and then we run-walk – short bursts of running with walk breaks in between. A coach runs with the group the whole time. It’s low-key, it’s friendly, and it’s over before you’ve had time to overthink it.

Two coached sessions a week, plus one “homework” run you do on your own in your own time. Three runs a week total, but only two where you have to be somewhere at a set time.

Never – not on day one, not until you’re genuinely ready. We run / walk the entire programme. The running intervals stay short and the walk breaks slowly get shorter. You build up without ever getting ambushed by a scary jump.

We run in most weather – a bit of rain won’t stop us. If conditions are genuinely horrible, your coach will let the WhatsApp group know. Your session will then be rescheduled to another day based on the group’s preference. You will never lose a session.

We build up gradually and carefully, which is exactly why beginners do so well with us. That said, we’re a run club, not doctors – if you’ve got a health condition or any concerns, have a quick chat with your GP before you start, just to be safe.
